About this hotel
Since 2006 the Hotel de Rome has occupied this former bank house, built in 1889. What used to be the vault is now the pool. The rooftop terrace looks out over Berlin Cathedral, and the hotel's own La Banca restaurant serves Italian dishes.
On Bebelplatz, Hotel de Rome combines the heritage of a banking house with understated elegance. Museum Island, the State Opera and the Humboldt Forum sit within walking distance, making it an ideal base for culture and architecture travelers who want a central spot away from the biggest crowds.
What was once the bank vault today functions as the pool, while the rooftop terrace looks out over Berlin Cathedral. With the Hausvogteiplatz and Französische Straße U-Bahn stations and Friedrichstraße close by, the entire city is quickly within reach.
In summer the rooftop terrace becomes the property's real draw - a sundowner over the roofs of Mitte is well worth it, but should be reserved early. Anyone attending the State Opera or the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt has the shortest possible walk home after the performance.
Mitte
Stately, steeped in history, urban and elegant. By day tourists set the scene, by evening it is theater and fine dining.
