Boutique Hotels in Berlin

Few European cities hold as many individually run boutique hotels as Berlin. The reason lies in the building stock: empty factory floors, period apartment houses and former department stores could be turned into 20-to-80-room properties with comparatively little effort, each with a character of its own. The result is a set of addresses you would never mistake for a chain.

These houses cluster most densely in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and northern Mitte around Torstraße, with Prenzlauer Berg alongside. When booking a boutique hotel, pay attention to the position within the neighbourhood: a quiet courtyard can be worth its weight in gold, while rooms straight above a nightlife street turn loud at weekends. Breakfast here is often a small event in itself rather than mass-produced buffet fare.
