In eastern Mitte, Alexanderplatz is the big transport and shopping hub, defined by the TV Tower, the World Clock and wide open spaces. Because U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and regional trains all converge here, the Alex makes a practical starting point.
Department stores and shopping centers line up around the square, and Museum Island, the Rotes Rathaus and Hackescher Markt are ready on foot. It works excellently as a central base for sightseeing.
